What's special about my job is that as an IT person in the GFO, I have the chance to help ensure that people receive good healthcare with what I do. Of course, sometimes that is more directly noticeable, sometimes less. Nevertheless, I have a sense of social purpose in the morning on my way to work, and in my experience that is something special as an IT person.
I am a division manager within IT at GFO. Together with my colleagues I am responsible for projects and consulting around all non-clinical software products. This means that we work with and for our customers on projects involving the introduction and further development of software. This often involves improving processes that are already digitally mapped, but it also often happens that we digitize previously analog, manual processes and thus often make our customers' everyday work much easier. That's a lot of fun.
The cliché of the introverted nerd annoys me the most, but it's also often true. In IT, we have a colorful mix of "rampagers" and people who rarely prefer to be the center of attention. This cliché is often true, although perhaps not for myself - although as a mathematician I am very badly influenced in this respect ;-) But what many people don't understand is that IT nerds also like to communicate and are social beings, just in a different way and possibly on different topics than the mainstream is so used to.
